TARRA is delighted to see the upgrade work being carried out on the Helensville/Parakai footpath, beginning at the Parakai end and including improving safety barriers at the bridge.
The need for the well used link between Helensville and Parakai to be made safe and user friendly was identified as our priority project from the formation of our association less than two years ago. We have variously lobbied Council and our Local Board, and identified this priority in a combined submission with South Kaipara R&R Assoc and Kaukapakapa R&R Assoc, to the Local Board 3 year plan last year.
Our Local Board advised us recently that they were pushing for this project, being an existing path, to be under the maintenance budget, rather than the very limited (new) footpath budget. Success! We acknowledge the efforts of our Local Board on behalf of our community.
