Helensville Art Centre ran the first of this years ‘3 for ALL’ exhibitions where anyone could put a piece of work in in any medium for just $3 per item.
Visitors to the exhibition were asked to vote for their three favourite pieces.
Scoring the most votes jointly were Helensville fabric artist Jo Dixie for her ‘Ripples of Blueness’ and Kaukapakapa metal artist Andrew Denton for his ‘Galactic Juggler.
Coming in closely were Wainui artist Graham Braddock for his ‘Seeing Beyond’ and Jewish artist Shulamit Ataya for her ‘One in Messiah, One in the Olive Tree’, which has been exhibited in London’s Westminister Abbey.
Close on their heals was a second piece by Andrew Denton ‘Caught in the Headlights’.
In creating his ‘Galactic Juggler’ Andrew had first produced two orbs in reinforcing bar, which he proudly showed to his wife, Pauline, who was far from impressed. Andrew then decided to up his game and produced several
more orbs of varying sizes, which he put together to form a huge tellurium, which moves, mimicking the orbits of the planets. This piece so impressed the very first visitors to the exhibition that they bought it!
The April exhibition is dedicated to members of Art Kaipara, the Art Centre’s umbrella organisation. Any artist working in any media may sign up to Art Kaipara for just $20 for the year and exhibit in the April and September Members Exhibitions. The fee is just $10 for people aged 16 or less.
