After 40 years continuous service as a school cleaner at Kaukapakapa School, Raewyn Gray is retiring.
While her final days will be spent over the holidays, we made a big song and dance about her one the last day of term (Friday September 23), literally. Students made card and a gold dust pan to present while singing a rewritten version of Sadie the cleaning lady. At a morning tea held in her honor she received gifts from the staff board and community.
Principal Tony Westrupp said, “Our school is indebted to the care (she) has taken to present it in a most pristine condition.”
Raewyn and her late husband Arthur raised their family through Kaukapakapa School and as a team contributed hundreds of hours to voluntary service to our school, on top of her cleaning duties. We wish her will on her retirement.
