New Art Centre to Open Labour Weekend
The new art centre, which is housed in the basement of the Helensville War Memorial Hall and has been provided to Helensville by Council, will open its doors to the public over Labour Weekend.
The “Opening Exhibition” will feature artwork from artists and people who have supported the Art Centre over the years. 2 dimensional works will be on 12 x 12 canvases and the size of 3 dimensional works will be open.
Auckland Mayor, Len Brown, will officially open the new Art Centre on Friday 23rd October from 6 – 8pm giving a speech at 6.30pm. This will be followed on Saturday by family friendly celebrations between 10am and 2pm Saturday 24th including an interactive workshop for the kids.
The dates were chosen to tie in with the ‘Arts in the ‘Ville’ event which will run over the same weekend and see many Helensville artists, including Free artist’s Talk with
Jeff Thomson at his workshop at 12 Awaroa Road 7pm, Tuesday 17th November. No need to book, just turn up! Organised through the Art Centre, Helensville and run with sponsorship through the Creative Communities scheme.
