Hank Snell is no new comer when it comes to making short films. He has worked in both his native Canada and the UK, receiving an invitation to Buckingham Palace as a result of recognition for a movie he made with a ‘differently abled’ young man.
His fast-paced Make a Movie in a Day workshop is due to run again on April 23 for creating and April 24 for viewing the premiere of the completed movie. Hank starts the day with a brainstorming session and somehow ties everyone’s ideas together before setting people up with tasks to create the movie. Participants are encouraged to bring along anything they may wish to use during the creation of the movie such as props, costumes, musical instruments, even Lego!
Three previous movies, lasting about three minutes each, are looped onto a DVD playing at the Art Centre and include some stop frame animation with Lego and the puppets one participant bought along.
People are already booking onto this course, so if you’re interested in being part of creating a short movie or even acting in one or script writing then this is your opportunity. The workshop is subsidised by the Creative Communities Scheme so the price of $45 is less than half the true cost of the workshop.
The Make a Movie in a Day workshop runs from 10.30am until 4.30pm on Saturday 23 April. The movie premiere is at 7pm on Sunday 24 April. All are welcome to attend the premier at no charge.
