A reminder to locals to please book your place for the Christmas Lunch. If you are alone, have no family near, are bereaved or just find Christmas an extra stressful time, the community lunch is aimed at you. To spend the day with us at the War Memorial Hall for some good old fashioned Christmas cheer please register yourself and your family at one of the following venues: Citizen’s Advice Bureau, situated right in town; Te Whare Oranga in Parakai; The Women’s Centre in Porters Cres; or Te Ha Oranga in Commercial Rd. These venues have regular business hours, except C.A.B. which closes at 3pm. A gold coin on the day is all that is required.
We still need some help please with children’s carols in the morning before lunch, and musical instruments if possible too please.
Our second need is for some long stemmed flowers, in Christmas colours if possible, and greenery such as silver dollar, hydrangeas, harakeke leaves, bottlebrush etc. These may be placed outside the library on the 24th December in the available buckets of water. Helpers for the 24th, 25th and 26th December please ph 021 1820470. Local council has not supported the Community Christmas Lunch this year, so please take any articles for our food boxes to the Hospice Shop in Mill Rd before 3pm. Monetary donations may be deposited in the Community Lunch Account at Kiwibank. Any items of food for the lunch are also greatly appreciated. Dietary needs such as vegetarian, gluten free and diabetic will all be catered for.
The Christmas Lunch is centred on local families who can find Christmas a traumatic time for various reasons. Your support is of huge benefit, so thank you. Our small group of busy volunteers would not be able to do this without your local support.
Merry Christmas.
