Are you feeling creative? Auckland Council are upgrading the area around the play equipment and picnic tables, behind the Helensville Library and want to create linkages with the adjacent library and Helensville Arts Centre. Can you help by designing seating and picnic table sets for the Helensville Civic Centre Play Space?
Attached is a plan of the existing playground and proposed new landscape features to surround the play equipment. We are looking for designs for new picnic / seating areas, as indicated on the Concept Plan (Picnic Areas 1 to 5).
We want to bring lots of colour into the space, and also weave letters of the alphabet through the area to provide a connection with the library.
The brief is as follows:
· The picnic table and seats are to be able to fit comfortably in the spaces provided (4 metres or 5 metres).
· The picnic table and seats need to be durable, colourful and able to fit in with the overall theme of the play space.
· Picnic 1 to have no table, but is to have seats or benches with back rests.
· Picnic 5 is to be wheelchair accessible.
If you are interested, please provide initial brief concepts, descriptions and sketches of your ideas for all of the picnic and seating areas along with some examples/images of your previous work / portfolio or CV, if you feel it appropriate.
From these initial concepts four finalists will be chosen. These artists will each receive $1,000.00 to further refine their ideas to include details appropriate to take the ideas through to the construction phase. This information is to be in the form of models or drawings and is to include materials, dimensions, method of fixing the elements to the ground, colours and costs of construction. Our budget for each picnic area is between $3000 and $5000.
From these four finalists we will choose one winner who will be commissioned to construct the picnic tables and chairs. The winning artist can work with a woodworker/fabricator to create their designs if they so wish. The Parks team will engage a contractor to install the designs, with overview from the artist.
The initial designs need to be received by us by Friday 23rd September 2016.
Please send your designs and contact details, along with a rough anticipated cost of constructing them, to Geraldine Bayly from Kaipara Coast Landscape Architecture at geraldine@kaiparacoast.co.nz, PO Box 63, Kaukapakapa, Auckland 0843.
Please don’t hesitate to contact Geraldine on 021 475 222 with any questions.
Proposals that are chosen will be announced by 30th September 2016, with the designs of the four finalists to be submitted by 14th October and constructed soon after.
We look forward to receiving your creations.
