The Lions Club of Helensville Christmas Book Fair, held last weekend, raised just over $7, 600and we would like to thank all those who supported us by buying books, we hope your purchases give you many happy hours of reading. Also a big thank you to all who donated the books, without you we would have no Book Fair.
Thanks are also due to Kaipara College students, Blue Light, family members and others who helped us deliver and set out the estimated 24,000 books in readiness for Saturday morning, without your young arms and strong backs we would have really struggled.
Thank you also to the Rodney Local Board who waived the hire charges for the War Memorial Hall enabling all money raised to go into the Lions Club of Helensville Charitable Trust. These funds will be used to assist those local organisations or members of our community who are in need.
Approximately a third of our total stock of books was sold; the remainder will be re-sorted with damaged or unsaleable books going to the Helensville Recycle Centre. We also have a contact within the Prison Service who has requested specific reference books and novels for prisoners, which we supply when available. The rest of the books are then sold at the Lions bookstall at the Kaukapakapa Market, which is held on the third Sunday of each month, and at other events run by the Lions Club of Helensville.
The next Book Fair is our Autumn Book Fair, which will be held on the last weekend of May 2016, Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th.
As a service to our community, the Helensville Lions will accept books throughout the year, and can collect larger donations, smaller amounts can be left at Helensville Copy & Print, 56 Commercial Road. For further information call Chris 420 8527 or Hilty 420 8122 or any other Lions member.
