logo-cab-printThe Helensville Citizens Advice Bureau and local Justices of the Peace are joining forces
to offer a combined service on Saturday mornings.
Currently, the bright yellow and black CAB office in Helensville’s main JP logostreet is open 10am – 3pm weekdays. As well as offering advice and information on all manner of public inquiries, it offers a JP service through its three in house Justices of the Peace, and another three JPs who live locally and are often available to pop down to meet a client who has walked in without an appointment.
Grev Walker, who proudly represents the local JP Support Group which is affiliated to the Auckland Justices of the Peace Association, says “in years past, if you needed a JP to sign documents, you would call them up at home and arrange a time to go visit them, but because of privacy and security concerns, for both JPs and clients, we’ve seen a move away from this towards Service Desks, like the one offered at the CAB.”
In fact, there are now around 60 JP Service Desks operating in convenient locations around Auckland, such as shopping centres, libraries and district courts. As Grev Walker says, “as with most trends, if you can’t beat them, join them.”
The local JPs have decided that with so many people working fulltime hours, a weekday only service is often inconvenient. So they’ll be volunteering their time on Saturday mornings for those who need it.
The first weekend clinic will be 10am12pm, Saturday 3 September, at the CAB office, 27 Commercial Road, Helensville, and will be available every Saturday from then on, except over the Christmas New
Year break. It’s a free service and appointments are not necessary.
