The Art on Track Gallery in Helensville welcomes the next guest artist, John Campbell, whose exhibition opens on Wednesday 16th March and runs until Sunday 3rd April.
John’s interest in art evolved from the age of 13 when he attended Coventry College of Art, UK from 1952 to 1954. On completion he took up an apprenticeship as a copper plate engraver/colour proofer. He immigrated to New Zealand in 1964 and continued in the printing industry until 1998. During a seven-year overseas holiday in the UK in the late 1990’s John once again took up art, specialising in painting watercolour landscapes.
Returning to New Zealand in late 2003 he settled in the Hawkes Bay. During this period John was a partner in an art gallery in Napier and held art exhibitions in galleries and wineries. After eight wonderful years in Hawkes Bay John moved to Auckland. Now retired and living in Westmere he is looking forward to spending more time painting, the hobby he loves.
John specialises in New Zealand and Australian landscapes, as well as trying to capture the rural scenes of old buildings. His other hobbies are philately, collecting Kiwiana and working at the Auckland Zoo as a volunteer.
Also at Art on Track is the work of resident artists, along with Arataki Ceramics and handmade jewellery by Halina McGechan. The Gallery is open Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 3pm and we look forward to seeing you there.
