Alison McKenzie House was originally built in the 1930s as a general practitioner’s clinic and residence. The Helensville District Health Trust bought the building in 2004 and the house was named in honour of the founding Chairperson of the Trust. It has been home to the Helensville District Health Trust for years, but the eye-catching art deco building on the corner of Commercial Road and Porter Crescent has been temporarily closed for repairs and maintenance.
Engineers have discovered the foundations of Alison McKenzie House are unsafe and has recommended the occupants move out. Trust Manager Charm Torrance says, “This could have been a major upheaval for staff, volunteers and clients but, thanks to the immense cooperation and goodwill of all involved, new homes have been found for everyone with minimal disruption to services.” While it’s business as usual for the affected organisations, the temporary closure of Alison McKenzie House does mean a juggle for clients and staff as they move premises.
In the immediate future the affected businesses will be situated as follows: –
The Helensville District Health Trust administration team moves next door to the Women and Family Centre at 1 Porter Crescent, Helensville.
The Women and Family Centre has moved to Te Whare Oranga ô Parakai.
The Midwife Clinic remains at 1 Porter Crescent, Helensville.
Parent Aid moves to 1 Porter Crescent, Helensville.
The South Kaipara Men’s Trust moves to Te Whare Oranga ô Parakai.
Charm Torrance asks the community to remain patient through this transition. Everyone is working as hard as possible to ensure minimal disruption to services for the Trust, which is charged with creating “The Healthiest Rural Community in New Zealand.”
