A large and enthusiastic crowd was treated to an entertaining day of live music at the “Chill in the Ville” music festival on Saturday at Helensville’s iconic Grand Hotel.

DJ WeS

‘DJ WeS’ started the proceedings at midday with a set of British house and trance music, followed by an acoustic guitar performance of song covers from Awa Brown, who also composed a song dedicated to Chill in the Ville. Summah Avaue and her newly formed band, Creature, had the crowd on their feet with an easy listening 30 minute set.
Campbell Tapurau, aka DJ BAKUP, continued the positive vibe with his uplifting music before high octane rock and roll band, Flintwater Express, worked the crowd into a frenzy with their loud, boisterous rock and roll sound.

Thee Rum Coves

The locals barely had time to catch their breath when Thee Rum Coves, with the kiwi music legend, Jimmy Christmas, stormed onto the stage belting out more foot stomping sounds.
Helensville’s favourite group, The Recipe, had everybody dancing and grooving to their spectacular songs. The Recipe is a Hip Hop band formed by local music producer Shaun Darlison. Brothers Hoani and Hori Harris are out front with their sweet vocals with Daryl Hill -Moore on bass guitar. Garin works his magic on the keyboard with Billy on the drums. Darlinson also plays in the band on lead guitar.

Wendy and Andy

DJ BAKUP spun more vinyl to bring the curtain down on a hugely successful day enjoyed by locals, which raised hundreds of dollars for local charity The Angel Fund.
Chill in the Ville organisers would like to thank Bonnie and Wayne at The Grand for all their help in making this local event so successful. Another Chill in the Ville is planned for March; further information will be become available on the Chill in the Ville Facebook page.
The Angel Fund is a charity that was formed by local ladies Lyn Massie, Tracey Roberts, Leigh Cummings, and Joanne Chiswell.
The Angel Fund helps local children play junior sport and also helps local families that need financial assistance in difficult times.
If you would like to assist The Angel Fund you can contact Leigh on 4208980.
