RockQuestOver the last 14 years Kaipara College has been active in the Smoke Free Rock Quest. The 2016 SFRQ had over 700 band entries alone across Aotearoa.
The students have achieved some incredible things over the years such as; over 100 musicians entered in one year, 17 band entries in one year alone, large numbers of entries moving onto the regional finals stage. The musicians have also won best musician, best female musician, best lyrics, best song, firsts, seconds and people choice awards.
But this year takes the cake.
This year Kaipara Music was proudly represented at the penultimate Smoke Free Rock Quest stage, the video stage. The four video stage finalists were soloists Roxy Clarke, Aimee-Jane Way and bands Flintwater Express and O-Boy!
We can now proudly announce that Aimee-Jane Way and O-Boy! (Bryony Roberts and Bianca Bailey ) have been selected onto the final list for consideration for the 2016 SFRQ National finals. The national finals selection will be announced on Monday.
This is the biggest achievement that Kaipara musicians have made in the RockQuest.
CONGRATULATIONS to both Aimee and O-Boy!, your school, music friends, whanau and South Kaipara community are proud of your achievements.
Daniel Barrett, the Head of Music at Kaipara College has worked solidly with the music family and his direction can be credited with some of the success for this year. Chris Cheriton has been a mainstay for the music programme through the band factory and without his passion, honesty and support many students may not have gone as far as they have.
To all the musicians and families who are part of the Kaipara music family today and from before, you create this strength that enables those who follow to build on the legacy.
