Kaukapakapa resident Megan Paterson is currently researching the history of the Kaukapakapa Hotel.
The original Hotel was opened in 1865, initially having an illicit still in the Whakatewai Bush before it was granted a licence. It burnt down in July 1912 and was rebuilt by December 1912. Originally it had a verandah and hitching rails at the front, with the current facade being added by Teddy Williams in 1959.
Megan is hoping someone might have some photos of or information about the Hotel, particularly between 1912 and 1959. During this time it was moved to its current position on North Crescent.
