This year marks Helensville’s 114th A&P Show. In today’s fast paced times where memories are often short, Helensville’s A&P Show remains a steady and beloved event deeply rooted in the heritage of Helensville and its surrounding districts. It’s an institution that has created many memories for all the locals and participants, the Show certainly has some stories to tell.
The 2016 Show aims to make many more memories and create new history. It is all about the animals, our people and our rural roots, along with having a lot of fun showing them. The equestrian, livestock, horticultural, and indoor competitions remain the mainstay of the Show and are its stars. With almost 3,000 entries last year it’s a competitive business and one that allows a lot of talent to be nurtured and displayed.
This year we’ve worked hard to up our entries and our game. The “Guess the Weight” competition will be back. Helensville Artist Geoff Thompson will be creating another of his master pieces. There is live music with the Groove Diggers and local band Tweed performing on the main stage during the afternoon. The WW2 Historical Re-enactment Society will be displaying three static displays of WW2 units. There will be tractor displays and plenty to look at during the day. There really will be something for everyone.
Cherry the Clown will be taking children’s entertainment to a new level (literally!!!). In case all the side shows, face-painting, marionette’s theatre, McDonald’s Farm, free pony and Clydesdale cart rides, traditional handicraft displays, sheep dog trials, trade stalls galore, yummy food and the Junior Farmer Contest aren’t enough, don’t forget the Dayle ITM North Harbour Axemen woodchopping competition. The Show will once again be run as a zero waste event.
The Show officially opens at 09:30am with the gates shutting at 16:00:Adults $10, Children $5, Family Pass $25. It’s one great day at one great place
