Summer season exhibitions at Art on Track Gallery at the Helensville Railway Station open with Wendy Fraser having her 4th exhibition of her amazing swamp kauri carvings. This is no mean feat, as Wendy has been out of commission with several injuries affecting her ability to pursue her craft which requires great physical strength and effort.
Wendy’s carvings for home and garden, both wall and standing, cover a variety of subjects from musical clef, hearts and tear drops, many featuring bronze inlays.  There is also a selection of carved walking sticks made from random wood collected in the bush and modified to make each one a totally individual piece.
Another exciting happening in December is that local resident Halina McGechan has joined the cooperative as a full member. Halina makes jewellery, including threaded bead and twisty rope bead necklaces, bracelets and, especially for this time of year, stars and other beaded decorations for your Christmas tree. We are thrilled to have hand-crafted jewellery for sale again and to have Halina join us.
All of the above are available at reasonable prices just in time for Christmas, along with all the other lovely art work by the resident artists, paintings large to tiny for grown ups and “littlies” at prices even children can afford.
Don’t forget we also sell the work of New Zealand themed Arataki Ceramics, which is immensely popular with overseas tourists, as are our hand painted greetings cards.
It’s not just Art on Track Gallery where you can find that elusive Christmas gift. Helensville is full of outlets with something a little different, so we all hope you will think local for your Christmas shopping.
Multi-media artist Jo Bain will be our next exhibitor. More of that next month.
Gallery opening hours are Wednesday to Sunday, 10 am. to 3.30 pm.
